Program

The 2006 Brearley Benefit Committee is pleased to announce this year’s benefit, Cincotti in Concert, to be held Wednesday, May 24, 2006, from 7:30-10:30 p.m. The event will take place at the Frederick P. Rose Hall, home of Jazz at Lincoln Center, located in the new Time Warner Center at Columbus Circle. The evening will open with a performance by Brearley’s a cappella group, the B-Naturals, followed by the music of Peter Cincotti, the singer-songwriter-pianist who has been called a "proud pop-jazz throwback." A dessert reception will follow in The Atrium and The Allen Room, where unforgettable views of Central Park and Columbus Circle captivate New Yorkers and tourists alike. Proceeds from the event will be used to support and fund faculty compensation.

The B-Naturals

The Brearley B-Naturals was created in 1985 by Alisa Biran ’89 and was student run until 1993 when Alisa returned to Brearley and became the faculty director. She was followed by Lynn Chen in 1999, who in turn was succeeded in 2000 by its current director, Karyn Joaquino. Over the last twenty years, the B-Naturals have performed everywhere from Brearley to the Carlyle Hotel. They’ve entertained at numerous private parties as well as a Foundation Benefit before the King and Queen of Sweden. The group has toured England and Wales twice with Brearley’s Upper School Chorus. They are delighted to perform selections from their jazz repertoire for the Brearley community in the spectacular state-of-the-art space created for Jazz at Lincoln Center.

Peter Cincotti

Cincotti became one of the hottest sensations to hit the scene in 2003, when his self-titled, critically acclaimed debut CD hit the top of Billboard’s Jazz Charts. In September 2004, Peter’s second CD "On the Moon," received rave reviews from critics across the country; The New York Times declared the 22-year old "one of the most promising of singer-pianists of the next generation." Peter has since been on tour thrilling audiences around the world. Cincotti attributes his unique sound to his broad musical interests. "Being born and raised in Manhattan, there was so much around. My sister and I were taken to hear everything from rock concerts at Madison Square Garden to jazz clubs and Broadway shows. I always went through different musical phases through the years and had many influences. I am still experiencing this development which I hope continues for the rest of my life."
